Dr. Nina Ansary is an award-winning Iranian American author, historian, UN Women Global Champion for Innovation, and Director of the World Affairs Councils of America Global Women’s Lecture Series.

Nina is the author of Anonymous Is a Woman: A Global Chronicle of Gender Inequality (Revela Press/March 2020) and Jewels of Allah: The Untold Story of Women in Iran (Revela Press/2015). The books garnered numerous awards, including the 2016 International Book Award in “Women’s Issues” (Jewels of Allah), the 2021 IndieReader Discovery Award in “History” and the 2021 Benjamin Franklin Award for “Interior Design” (Anonymous Is a Woman). Nina is the recipient of the 2019 Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the 2018 Trailblazer Award from Barnard College, Columbia University. She has been recognized by The Hill as one of “10 Inspirational Women (that) Should Be Household Names” and as “6 Women Who Build Bridges Not Walls” by The New York Times, and been featured in a variety of publications, including Time Magazine, Newsweek, The Los Angeles TimesTeen Vogue and the Yale Journal of International Affairs. She has appeared on Larry King, Fox News, Sky News, CNN International and the BBC, and has presented her work at Columbia, Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge universities, the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security, and the U.S. Senate.

Nina holds an MA in Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies and a PhD in History from Columbia University. She serves on the International Advisory Board of the Cambridge Middle East and North Africa Forum (MENAF), a think-tank based at the University of Cambridge, and the Board of Trustees of the Iranian American Women Foundation (IAWF).
