Provenance
Abbott Lawrence was a notable participant in the development of the textile industry in America and served as United States minister to Great Britain (1849-1852). Spoon descended to the Lambs from their great grandfather Abbot Lawrence, founder of Lawrence, MA. Abbott Lawrence was a close friend of John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster, and other statesmen. He was Ambassador to the Court of St. James in 1840s.
Inscriptions
Engraved with a contemporary but unidentified crest: On a torse, an arm cubit, the hand holding an estoile; the reverse engraved ca. 1850 with Old English initials: "A.K.L." for Abbott and Katherine (Bigelow) Lawrence. Marks: The spoon is marked on the reverse of the handle: "REVERE"
