Gift of General Washington to his niece, Elizabeth Washington, on occasion of her marriage to General Alexander Spotswood of Virginia. General Alexander Spotswood was the grandson of Colonial Governor Spotswood (Knights of the Golden Horseshoe). Elizabeth Washington was the daughter of Augustine Washington, brother of the President.
