Provenance
The artwork was commissioned by Captain Young, the captain of the Bark, while in England in 1883. His daughter, the mother of donor, Mr. Wilson Smith, was born on the "A.C. Bean" and Captain Young wanted to record the place of his daughter's birth. The ship's home port was Portland, Maine. The Bark was built at Deering, Maine in 1872, made many voyages around the world but it was wrecked off the Irish coast in 1893.
